The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) has confirmed an early morning invasion of its office by over 12 personnel from the Air Force base located in Sam Ethnan Barracks, Ikeja, Lagos.

The company’s spokesperson, Kingsley Okotie, disclosed the incident during a phone interview with Vanguard, detailing how the armed personnel stormed the IKEDC premises in a truck and physically assaulted staff members.

“They came in with their truck, beating the staff of our company. They even took my laptop, and now most staff can’t find their phones since they left. They came in around 8 a.m. this morning, Thursday, March 6, 2025,” Okotie revealed.

Providing insight into the motive behind the invasion, Okotie explained that the military personnel acted in retaliation for the electricity disconnection at the barracks.

“We disconnected their electricity 10 days ago because they owe us over N4 billion. They were disconnected, and this is what we got in return,” he stated.

According to Okotie, the intruders molested and assaulted IKEDC staff, wreaked havoc on the company’s property, and made away with about 16 company vehicles, forcing IKEDC drivers to operate them at one point.

“They destroyed all our offices, stole laptops, phones, and destroyed all our IT infrastructure, blinding all the CCTV cameras,” he added.

The attack has raised serious concerns about the safety of corporate institutions dealing with government entities, with stakeholders calling for urgent intervention from security agencies.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident, but IKEDC has vowed to pursue legal action and demand justice for its affected employees and damages incurred.
