Adeleke, Accord Party endorse Tinubu for 2027 presidential election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the national leadership of the Accord Party have formally adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election following a high-level meeting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for Adeleke’s re-election campaign. According to the statement, Adeleke met with members of the Accord Party’s National Executive Committee on Saturday night to deliberate on issues affecting the party and its political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party leadership said its endorsement of Tinubu was informed by the need for continuity in the implementation of key federal infrastructure projects. It specifically cited the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway as strategic national projects that should be completed under the current administration.

The meeting also focused on preparations for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election. Party leaders called for a peaceful electoral process, warning against violence, voter intimidation, electoral manipulation and the alleged misuse of security agencies during the poll.

Among those present at the meeting were Accord Party National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem, Deputy National Chairman Maryam Sale, National Secretary Ajaja Abiola Adebukola, National Treasurer Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen, National Organising Secretary Ibe Thankgod, National Publicity Secretary Omorogbe Joseph, as well as state chairmen from across the country.

The endorsement adds to the growing wave of early political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election, although Nigeria’s political parties are yet to commence the formal nomination process for presidential candidates in line with the timetable to be released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
