Nigerian rapper, actor and social activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has reiterated that he has never endorsed any politician or political party, maintaining that he remains independent because of his reservations about Nigeria’s political class.
The award-winning entertainer made the clarification while addressing questions about his political stance, stressing that he has deliberately refrained from publicly backing political candidates despite his vocal advocacy on governance and social justice.
According to Falz, his decision stems from concerns over the country’s political landscape and what he described as the absence of a genuinely new generation of leaders capable of driving meaningful change.
He noted that while he frequently comments on issues affecting governance, accountability and citizens’ welfare, such interventions should not be interpreted as support for any political figure or party.
“I have never endorsed any politician or political party,” Falz stated, adding that he prefers to maintain an independent position that allows him to speak freely on issues of national importance.
The rapper explained that his activism is rooted in a desire to promote good governance, transparency and accountability rather than partisan politics.
Falz, who has become one of Nigeria’s most prominent celebrity voices on civic issues, said he believes the country’s democratic process should be guided by the will of the people rather than political patronage or endorsements from public figures.
He urged Nigerians to actively participate in elections and make their choices freely, emphasising that every eligible voter has a responsibility to contribute to the country’s democratic development.
According to him, credible elections remain one of the most effective ways citizens can shape the nation’s future and hold leaders accountable.
Falz also stressed the importance of protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process, calling for elections that are free, fair and transparent.
He encouraged Nigerians not to become discouraged by the country’s political challenges but to continue engaging in the democratic process by voting and peacefully expressing their views.
The entertainer has consistently used his platform to advocate for social justice and institutional reforms. He played a visible role during the 2020 #EndSARS protests against police brutality and has remained outspoken on issues relating to governance, human rights and public accountability.
His latest remarks come amid renewed political discussions ahead of future electoral contests, with public figures increasingly facing questions about their political affiliations and endorsements.
Political analysts say celebrities often wield significant influence over public opinion, making endorsements a subject of public interest during election periods. However, they note that many public figures choose to remain politically neutral while encouraging civic participation.
By distancing himself from partisan politics, Falz said his focus remains on advocating policies and leadership that prioritise the welfare of Nigerians rather than supporting individual politicians or political organisations.
He concluded by urging citizens to remain engaged in the democratic process, insisting that sustained public participation is essential to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring that elected leaders remain accountable to the people.
