Former Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters and ex-lawmaker, Babafemi Ojudu, on Saturday cast his vote in the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election.
Ojudu exercised his civic responsibility at his polling unit as voting commenced across the state’s 16 local government areas in the election being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The poll is expected to determine who will govern the state for the next four years.
The former senator joined thousands of eligible voters participating in the exercise, which has attracted keen interest from political stakeholders and observers. Electoral officials deployed the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for voter accreditation in line with INEC guidelines for the election.
The governorship election features candidates from multiple political parties, including incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who is seeking a second term in office. INEC had earlier confirmed its readiness for the exercise and assured residents that every valid vote would count.
Security personnel were deployed across the state to maintain order and ensure a peaceful voting process, while election observers monitored proceedings at various polling units. INEC also urged voters to adhere to electoral guidelines and refrain from acts capable of disrupting the process.
Speaking after casting his ballot, Ojudu encouraged citizens to participate peacefully in the democratic process and expressed hope for a credible and transparent election. His participation underscores the involvement of prominent political figures in the closely watched contest.
The election is taking place across 2,445 polling units in Ekiti State, with more than one million registered voters expected to decide the outcome. Results from the various polling units will be collated and announced by INEC in accordance with electoral procedures.
