From financial struggles to TikTok fame: Baami recounts ordeal

Popular Nigerian TikTok skit maker, Ayobami Samuel Adegbeyi, popularly known as Baami, has recounted the financial difficulties he faced before finding success as a content creator, including how a ₦30,000 loan he took for his then-girlfriend grew into a debt that nearly derailed his life.

Baami, who has built a following through his skits and personal storytelling, said the experience was one of the difficult periods in his journey before he became established in the entertainment space.

According to the content creator, he borrowed ₦30,000 to support his then-girlfriend, who needed the money to start a business. However, after their relationship ended, he was left with the financial burden.

He said the debt eventually increased to more than ₦300,000, putting him under considerable pressure and leaving him struggling to find a way out.

The experience, he said, was particularly difficult because of the limited financial resources available to him at the time.

Baami’s story is part of a broader account of the challenges he encountered while trying to build a career in entertainment. Before gaining recognition on TikTok, he had faced personal and financial difficulties that tested his resilience.

In an earlier interview, Baami also spoke about growing up with a disability and the ridicule and bullying he experienced as a child. He said those experiences affected him deeply but that he eventually learned to embrace himself and turn his circumstances into a source of strength.

His transition into content creation has since provided a different chapter in his life, with comedy and social media becoming avenues through which he has connected with audiences.

For Baami, the journey from struggling with debt and personal setbacks to building a career online illustrates the uncertain path many aspiring young entertainers face before achieving recognition.

His experience also serves as a reminder of the financial risks that can accompany borrowing, particularly when personal relationships and financial commitments become intertwined.

While the ₦30,000 loan once represented a significant burden for him, Baami has since used his experiences, including periods of hardship, as part of the story behind his emergence as a social media personality.
