Veteran media personality and longtime Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) host, IK Osakioduwa, has finally addressed his absence from the 2026 edition of the prestigious awards ceremony, bringing clarity to weeks of speculation among fans and entertainment industry stakeholders.
Osakioduwa, who had become synonymous with the AMVCA stage after hosting the event for 11 consecutive editions since its inception in 2013, said his exclusion from this year’s ceremony was not the result of any dispute or controversy but a decision made by the organisers as part of a new direction for the awards.
The 2026 edition of the AMVCA marked a significant shift in the history of the awards, with organisers appointing comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as co-hosts, effectively ending Osakioduwa’s remarkable 11-year run as the face of the event.
Speaking on the development, Osakioduwa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have hosted the awards for more than a decade, describing the experience as one of the most rewarding chapters of his career. He noted that change is an inevitable part of growth and that he respects the organisers’ decision to introduce a fresh perspective to the show.
The broadcaster also dismissed suggestions that he was unhappy about being replaced, emphasizing that he harbours no ill feelings toward the organisers or the new hosts. Instead, he wished them success and expressed confidence that they would bring their unique talents and energy to the AMVCA stage.
For many viewers, Osakioduwa’s absence was one of the most talked about aspects of this year’s event. Over the years, his wit, charisma and commanding stage presence had become defining features of the awards ceremony, earning him widespread recognition as one of Africa’s most accomplished event hosts.
Entertainment analysts say the change reflects a broader effort by the organisers to refresh the brand and attract new audiences while maintaining the AMVCA’s status as one of Africa’s leading platforms for celebrating excellence in film and television.
Despite stepping away from the AMVCA stage, Osakioduwa remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, with many fans expressing appreciation for his contributions to the awards over the years. Social media reactions following the announcement were mixed, with some viewers describing the move as the end of an era, while others welcomed the opportunity for a new generation of hosts to leave their mark on the ceremony.
The 12th edition of the AMVCA was held in Lagos, celebrating outstanding achievements in African film, television and digital content, while ushering in a new chapter in the event’s presentation.
