Lagos Police dismiss school attack rumour, boost security presence across state

The Lagos State Police Command has moved to reassure residents following reports of a purported threat targeting a school, insisting that there is no credible intelligence indicating any planned attack or abduction of pupils in any part of the state.

The clarification comes amid circulation of alarming claims that a notice had been discovered in a school premises warning of an alleged invasion by bandits and possible kidnapping of students, sparking concern among parents and school authorities.

In response, the police authorities said they treated the report with urgency and immediately activated preventive security measures, including the deployment of additional personnel to schools and other sensitive locations across Lagos.

The Command, in a statement issued on Sunday by its Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, urged residents to remain calm, stressing that ongoing investigations had not uncovered any verified threat.

“The Lagos State Police Command has seen reports of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intend to attack and abduct school children,” the statement read.

It added that preliminary assessments showed no evidence of an imminent security threat within the state, urging the public not to panic while security agencies continue monitoring the situation.

According to the Command, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has ordered an immediate review of the situation and directed intensified security operations across schools, residential communities and strategic infrastructure.

The statement noted that police operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies, have been deployed to strengthen surveillance and prevent any potential security breach.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, has directed immediate assessment of the situation and ordered watertight security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations within the State,” the Command stated.

The police further reassured residents that Lagos remains safe and under firm security control, warning criminal elements against attempts to spread fear or destabilise public order.

It emphasised that any individuals or groups found engaging in acts capable of causing panic or insecurity would face decisive legal action.

“The Command wishes to emphasise that Lagos State remains secure and that every lawful measure is being taken to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating or operating within the State,” the statement added.

The Command also called on residents to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and useful information that could assist law enforcement agencies in preventing crime.

Residents were encouraged to report suspicious movements, persons or activities to the nearest police station or through emergency communication channels.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the police assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the continued protection of lives and property across Lagos State.

“The public is once again assured that all hands are on deck to ensure the continued safety, security, and well-being of every resident of Lagos State,” the statement concluded.
