Malami secures ADC governorship ticket in Kebbi ahead of 2027 elections

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Malami was affirmed as the party’s consensus candidate during consultations involving party leaders and stakeholders in the state, according to a statement released by his media aide, Mohammed Bello Doka.

The former minister, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC, thanked party members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him as preparations for the 2027 governorship race gather momentum.

“I sincerely appreciate the confidence and support shown by leaders, stakeholders, and supporters of the African Democratic Congress in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Malami said in the statement.

The development marks a significant political shift in Kebbi State, where the APC has maintained strong influence in recent election cycles. Malami, who served as Attorney-General under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to play a prominent role in strengthening the ADC’s presence in the North-West ahead of the next electoral contest.

Party sources also confirmed that Malami participated in the announcement of ADC senatorial candidates for Kebbi State, signaling efforts by the party to consolidate its structure and prepare early for the 2027 elections.

Political observers say Malami’s defection and emergence as the ADC standard-bearer could reshape the political landscape in Kebbi, especially as opposition parties intensify moves to challenge the dominance of the APC in several northern states.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to officially release the timetable for the 2027 general elections.
