The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has assured that all Nigerian pilgrims who participated in the 2026 Hajj will be airlifted back to the country before the deadline set by Saudi Arabian authorities.
Chairman of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, gave the assurance while providing an update on the ongoing return operations for Nigerian pilgrims from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He stated that the commission had put in place the necessary arrangements to ensure the smooth and timely transportation of pilgrims to their respective states.
According to the commission, the return airlift operation has recorded significant progress, with several states already completing the transportation of their pilgrims back to Nigeria. NAHCON noted that the development reflects the effectiveness of the logistical plans implemented in collaboration with airlines, state pilgrims’ welfare boards and relevant Saudi authorities.
The commission said the return exercise has been proceeding according to schedule despite the large number of pilgrims involved. Officials expressed confidence that all remaining pilgrims would be transported before the expiration of the official departure window approved by Saudi authorities for the 2026 Hajj season.
NAHCON further disclosed that the airlift operation is being closely monitored to address any challenges that may arise and to ensure the comfort and safety of pilgrims throughout the journey. The commission also commended state pilgrims’ welfare boards and service providers for their cooperation during the exercise.
The Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, attracts millions of Muslims from across the world annually. Following the completion of the religious rites, participating countries are required to return their pilgrims within a specified period determined by Saudi authorities.
The commission urged the remaining pilgrims awaiting departure to comply with travel guidelines and cooperate with officials to facilitate a seamless return process. It also reassured families of pilgrims that every effort was being made to conclude the operation successfully and within the stipulated timeframe.
NAHCON has consistently emphasized its commitment to improving Hajj operations, including transportation, accommodation and welfare services, to ensure a better experience for Nigerian pilgrims participating in the annual pilgrimage.
