Nasarawa LP factional chairman alleges threat to life

A factional chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Nasarawa State, Alexander Ombugu, has raised concerns over what he described as threats to his life, calling on security agencies to provide immediate protection and investigate those responsible.

Speaking with journalists in Lafia, the state capital, Ombugu alleged that unnamed political opponents had threatened him, creating fears for his personal safety. He, however, declined to publicly identify any individuals or groups allegedly connected to the threats, saying such details should be disclosed directly to security agencies to avoid compromising investigations.

The LP chieftain suggested that the alleged threats may be linked to his position on internal party matters during the recently concluded primary elections in the state. He maintained that his actions had been guided by the party’s constitution and applicable laws.

“The fact is that I have not done anything wrong to anyone since I joined active politics,” Ombugu said while appealing for protection from law enforcement authorities.

He urged security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the allegations and provide adequate security coverage to safeguard his life and enable him to continue his political activities without fear.

The development comes amid ongoing internal disagreements within the Labour Party in Nasarawa State. In recent months, Ombugu has been involved in disputes over the party’s leadership structure, insisting that he remains the authentic chairman recognized by both the party’s national leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the individuals allegedly linked to the threats, while security agencies had yet to publicly comment on the matter.

The incident highlights growing concerns about political tensions and intra-party conflicts ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
