The Supreme Court has reversed the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which sacked the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, from office.

A five-member panel of the apex court on Friday, January 12, vacated the concurrent judgements of the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which sacked governor Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and declared Nasiru Gawuna of the APC, as winner of the gubernatorial poll.

Yusuf was declared the winner of the Kano governorship election after polling 1,019,602 votes to defeat Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 890,705 votes.

In September, the Kano governorship election petition tribunal sacked Yusuf as governor of the state after deducting 165,663 votes from the 1,019,602 votes he polled citing that the papers were not stamped, signed and dated as required by law.
