Northern Senators plead with ECOWAS over use of force in Niger Republic

The Northern Senators Forum of the 10th Senate have pleaded with ECOWAS not to deploy the use of military force to restore the democratic government as it would affect the northern states that share borders with Niger.

The forum revealed this in a statement on August 4th, 2023 as they condemn the coup and commend ECOWAS for its efforts.

“We, the Northern Senators Caucus of the 10th Senate under the leadership of Sen. Abdul Ahmad Ningi note with concern and condemn in its entirety the unfortunate development in Niger Republic where the military forcefully upstaged a democratically elected government.

The Northern Senators also take cognizance of the efforts of the ECOWAS leaders under the chairmanship of our Dear President, Bola Tinubu in resolving the situation in Niger Republic.

The emphasis, however should be focused on political & diplomatic means to restore democratic government in Niger Republic.
