Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs have intensified their recruitment drives ahead of the start of the 2026/27 season, with teams strengthening their squads in a bid to challenge for the league title, continental qualification and survival.
The new NPFL campaign is scheduled to kick off between August 28 and 30, with clubs using the transfer window to bolster their teams before the opening round of fixtures.
Across the league, several clubs have announced new arrivals as preparations gather pace. Kwara United unveiled 16 new signings as part of an extensive squad overhaul aimed at mounting a stronger title challenge after narrowly missing out on a top finish last season.
Newly promoted Barau FC have also been active in the transfer market, confirming the signing of 14 players to strengthen their squad ahead of their first campaign in the top flight. The Kano-based club said the recruitment exercise reflects its ambition to establish itself among Nigeria’s elite clubs.
Elsewhere, Katsina United introduced a number of new recruits as part of efforts to improve on last season’s performance, while other clubs, including Bendel Insurance, Bayelsa United and Abakaliki FC, have focused on reinforcing both their playing squads and technical departments.
Defending champions Rangers International and other leading sides are also expected to continue fine-tuning their squads before the transfer window closes, with clubs balancing experienced players and emerging talents in preparation for what is expected to be another highly competitive season.
League organisers have maintained that preparations for the new campaign remain on course, with clubs also participating in workshops and administrative programmes designed to improve professionalism, marketing and club management ahead of the season.
Football analysts believe the flurry of transfer activity reflects the growing competitiveness of the NPFL, as clubs invest in quality players and coaching staff to improve performances and attract larger fan support.
With just weeks remaining before the opening fixtures, supporters are expected to see more player arrivals and departures as clubs complete their recruitment plans for the 2026/27 campaign.
