The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had uploaded the vast majority of results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election to its Result Viewing (IReV) portal by nightfall, with the figure climbing steadily throughout the evening as the state’s collation process moved toward its concluding stages.
As of 9:42 p.m. on Saturday, INEC had uploaded 3,292 of the 3,763 expected polling-unit results to the IReV portal, representing 87.48 per cent of the total expected results. The figure marked a steady climb from 82.89 per cent (3,119 results) recorded roughly an hour and a half earlier, which itself was an increase from 76.99 per cent (2,897 results) about 45 minutes before that.
The uploads had progressed rapidly across the day: from just 90 results (2.4 per cent) shortly after voting closed at 3:48 p.m., through 33.99 per cent by 5:12 p.m., 65.45 per cent within the hour that followed, and past the 80 per cent mark by 7:45 p.m., before crossing 87 per cent later that evening. Results had been uploaded from all 30 of the state’s local government areas, though the level of completion varied across councils of Osogbo Local Government Area, which has 282 polling units, recorded the highest number of uploads, while some smaller councils such as Boluwaduro and Ifedayo had already reached near-total upload completion.
INEC and observers have been careful to note that the upload percentage reflects only the proportion of expected polling-unit result sheets that have been electronically published to the IReV platform, not the percentage of votes counted, nor an indicator of which candidate is leading. The official winner of the election will ultimately be determined through INEC’s established collation and declaration process rather than through the IReV portal itself.
Still, the IReV data has offered voters, political parties and observers real-time visibility into the vote count as it comes in. Figures reviewed by Premium Times on the Dataphyte election dashboard showed incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party leading with 451,744 votes (52.54 per cent), ahead of APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who had 382,689 votes (44.51 per cent), a gap of 69,055 votes based on results reflected on the dashboard at the time. Trailing candidates included Masilo Adeleke of the Boot Party with 104 votes, Taofeek Adewale of the New Nigeria Peoples Party with 96 votes, Clement Banji of the Action Peoples Party with 93 votes, and Saliu Oyelami of the Peoples Redemption Party with 84 votes.
The dashboard showed a total of 876,827 votes cast, comprising 859,796 valid votes and 17,031 rejected ballots.
Fifteen political parties fielded candidates in Saturday’s election, in which Governor Adeleke sought a second term after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Accord Party ahead of the poll. The state has 2,399,233 registered voters, of whom 1,906,390 had collected their Permanent Voter Cards and were eligible to vote across polling units in the state’s 332 wards and 30 local government areas.
The commission had earlier pledged to replicate the strong technological performance recorded during the Ekiti State election, where it achieved a 96 per cent BVAS functionality rate and a 98 per cent IReV completion rate, as part of efforts to boost transparency in the Osun poll.
With uploads nearing completion and collation entering its final stages across the state’s local government areas, attention was shifting to INEC’s Returning Officer, who is expected to formally declare the winner at the state collation centre once all outstanding results have been received, verified and collated in line with the commission’s established procedures.
