Otti commissions Nnenna Oti bus terminal in Umuahia

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has commissioned the newly built Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, describing the project as part of his administration’s efforts to modernise transportation infrastructure in the state.

The governor named the facility after Prof. Nnenna Nnennaya Oti, who served as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer during the 2023 Abia State governorship election.

According to Governor Otti, the decision was made in recognition of Prof. Oti’s integrity and courage during the conduct of the election, in which she announced the official results despite reported pressure from political interests.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the governor said the terminal represents a shift towards a more organised and sustainable transport system in Abia State. Reports indicate that the facility can accommodate more than 340 buses and is designed to support the state’s growing transport network, including electric buses.

Governor Otti stated that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to building modern infrastructure capable of improving mobility, boosting economic activities, and enhancing the overall commuting experience for residents.

Prof. Oti, who attended the event, expressed appreciation for the honour bestowed on her and reiterated the importance of accountability and integrity in public service, according to local media reports.

However, the naming of the terminal has also generated political reactions, with the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) criticising the move and describing it as inappropriate.
