The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has officially confirmed former Cross River State governor Donald Duke as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The party announced that Duke’s emergence as its standard-bearer was ratified after the National Working Committee (NWC) reviewed and approved the report of the Primaries Appeal Committee, which examined petitions arising from the party’s primary elections.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, the PRP said the appeal committee upheld the outcome of the presidential primary, affirming Duke as the validly elected candidate for the 2027 presidential race.
According to the party, the NWC adopted the committee’s recommendations after concluding its review process, thereby formally endorsing Duke’s candidacy.
The PRP also cleared hundreds of candidates who emerged from its various primary elections across the country to contest in the 2027 polls. However, the party said the primary election conducted for the Tarauni Federal Constituency was nullified following the review.
Duke, who served as governor of Cross River State from 1999 to 2007, previously contested Nigeria’s presidency in 2019. His confirmation as the PRP’s presidential candidate positions him as one of the notable contenders preparing for the 2027 general election.
The party said the review process was aimed at ensuring transparency and adherence to its internal electoral procedures ahead of the nationwide polls.
