Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged baby factory in Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects.
The operation was carried out at about 8 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, following intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said preliminary investigations indicated that the facility had allegedly been used for human trafficking and illegal adoption over time.
According to the police, the two rescued women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children which includes two boys and two girls were also rescued during the operation.
The six suspects arrested were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and Oseni Kusamotu Idaya, an attending nurse.
The police said a follow-up operation led investigators to a hospital in the Mowe area, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
However, the whereabouts of the newborn could not be established. The attending nurse was subsequently arrested to assist investigators in locating the child.
The command said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Police said detectives would work to establish the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and prosecute anyone found culpable.
The latest operation underscores continuing concerns over illegal child trafficking and so-called baby factories in parts of Nigeria. Such facilities have been associated with the exploitation of vulnerable pregnant women and the illegal sale or adoption of newborns.
The Ogun State Police Command said it would continue intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling trafficking networks and protecting vulnerable women and children.
All allegations against the arrested suspects remain subject to investigation, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court.
