Soso Soberekon puts ₦500m on Peter Okoye-Paul Okoye boxing bout

Nigerian music executive Soso Soberekon has offered singer Peter Okoye ₦500 million to face his twin brother, Paul Okoye, in a celebrity boxing match.

Soberekon made the proposal on Sunday night while Peter, popularly known as Mr P, was performing at an event.

A viral video from the event showed Soberekon in the audience holding up his phone towards Peter. The message displayed on the phone read: “500 Million Naira to fight your twin in a boxing match.”

The unusual proposal comes amid renewed tensions between Peter and Paul, who formerly performed together as the music duo P-Square.

The brothers have had a series of public disagreements since their group split, with their latest dispute involving allegations over the management and proceeds from their music catalogue.

Peter recently accused Paul and their elder brother, Jude Okoye, of diverting music royalties. Jude has denied the allegations, while Paul has indicated that he wants to distance himself from the ongoing family dispute.

The latest disagreement has generated considerable attention on social media, with the proposed boxing match adding a dramatic twist to the long-running dispute.

However, neither Peter nor Paul has publicly confirmed plans to participate in the proposed bout. Reports indicate that Peter appeared to wave off the proposal during the performance.

P-Square, which comprised the two brothers, became one of Africa’s most successful music acts before their first major split in 2017. Although they reunited in 2021, the reunion later collapsed, with Paul confirming another split in 2024.

For now, Soberekon’s ₦500 million offer remains a public proposal, with no indication that a boxing contest between the brothers has been formally arranged.
