The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned preventive maintenance exercise at the Katampe 132/33kV Transmission Substation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), warning that the operation will result in a temporary power outage in several parts of Abuja.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, TCN said the maintenance is scheduled to take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is aimed at ensuring the continued reliability and optimal performance of critical transmission infrastructure.
According to the statement, the exercise will enable TCN’s maintenance crew to carry out preventive maintenance on the 100MVA 132/33kV Power Transformer (TR1), its auxiliary equipment and associated switchgear at the Katampe Transmission Substation.
As a result of the maintenance, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive bulk power from the substation for distribution to customers in several affected areas. Communities expected to experience temporary electricity disruption include Mpape, Maitama, Jahi, Life Camp, Kado Fish Market, Idu-Karmo, and surrounding neighbourhoods.
TCN expressed regret over the inconvenience the planned outage may cause residents and businesses, stressing that routine maintenance is essential to enhance the reliability, safety and efficiency of the nation’s transmission network.
The company urged electricity consumers in the affected areas to make necessary arrangements during the maintenance period, assuring them that normal power supply would be restored immediately after the exercise is completed.
The maintenance is part of TCN’s ongoing efforts to improve the performance of Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure and minimise the risk of unplanned equipment failures that could lead to more prolonged power disruptions.
