Tegbe assures Nigerians of sustained improvements in electricity supply across the country

Olasunkanmi Tegbe, gave the assurance while speaking on efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen power generation, transmission, and distribution through strategic partnerships and infrastructure development initiatives aimed at addressing longstanding challenges in the electricity sector.

According to him, recent improvements recorded in power supply are a reflection of deliberate policies and investments designed to enhance energy access for households, businesses, and industries. He expressed confidence that the gains already achieved would be sustained and expanded in the coming years.

The official noted that stable electricity remains a critical component of economic growth and national development, stressing that the government is committed to ensuring that more Nigerians benefit from reliable and affordable power.

Tegbe highlighted the role of international cooperation, particularly between Nigeria and China, in supporting infrastructure development and energy projects across the country. He said several ongoing initiatives are expected to boost the nation’s electricity capacity, modernize power infrastructure, and improve service delivery to consumers.

He explained that investments in transmission networks, power generation facilities, and distribution systems are being prioritized to address bottlenecks that have historically limited the efficiency of the electricity value chain.

The assurance comes amid growing public demand for improved power supply as Nigerians continue to grapple with high energy costs and the impact of intermittent electricity on businesses and daily activities. Many households and enterprises have long relied on alternative energy sources, including generators, due to persistent power shortages.

Tegbe acknowledged the challenges facing the sector but maintained that ongoing reforms would gradually produce more tangible results. He said government agencies and industry stakeholders are working collaboratively to overcome operational constraints and ensure that electricity generated reaches consumers more efficiently.

He further emphasized the importance of private-sector participation in the power industry, noting that increased investment and innovation would play a vital role in expanding electricity access and improving overall sector performance.

Industry experts have repeatedly identified inadequate infrastructure, transmission limitations, liquidity concerns, and energy theft as some of the major issues affecting Nigeria’s electricity sector. Despite these challenges, stakeholders remain optimistic that sustained reforms and infrastructure investments could significantly improve power availability over time.

Tegbe reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming the power sector into a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and industrial development. He urged Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of ongoing efforts, assuring them that measures already being implemented would lead to more reliable electricity supply and better service delivery.

The latest assurance comes as the Federal Government continues to pursue policies aimed at increasing energy access, attracting investment into the power sector, and reducing the country’s infrastructure deficit. Observers say the success of these initiatives will be crucial to improving productivity, supporting businesses, and enhancing the quality of life for millions of Nigerians.

With electricity demand continuing to rise, stakeholders believe that sustained investment, effective regulation, and strong partnerships will be essential to achieving long-term improvements in Nigeria’s power sector and meeting the country’s growing energy needs.
