Two people have died following a fatal road crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup van along the Ijebu-Ode–Ibadan Road in Ogun State.
The accident occurred on Monday and was confirmed by the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), which attributed the crash to excessive speed and traffic rule violations.
According to the FRSC, the collision involved a commercial motorcycle and a pickup van. Preliminary investigations indicated that the rider of the motorcycle attempted a dangerous manoeuvre while travelling at high speed, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming vehicle. Reports from local media indicate that the crash occurred in the Ijebu North area of the state.
The impact of the collision left the motorcyclist and his passenger with severe injuries. FRSC rescue personnel who arrived at the scene confirmed that both victims died as a result of the injuries they sustained.
The bodies of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at a nearby morgue, while the damaged vehicles were cleared from the roadway to restore the free flow of traffic.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Anthony Uga, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists and motorcyclists to comply strictly with traffic regulations.
He warned against excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking and other forms of reckless driving, noting that such practices remain among the leading causes of road traffic crashes in the state.
The sector commander also advised commercial motorcycle operators to exercise greater caution while carrying passengers and to avoid risky manoeuvres that could endanger lives.
The latest accident adds to a growing number of fatal road crashes recorded in Ogun State in recent months. The FRSC has repeatedly intensified public awareness campaigns and enforcement operations aimed at promoting safer road use and reducing preventable accidents across the state.
The Corps reiterated its appeal to all road users to obey speed limits, avoid dangerous driving practices and ensure that their vehicles and motorcycles are roadworthy to help reduce the incidence of fatal crashes.
