Sanwo-Olu tasks APC newly elected state executive ahead 2027 polls

The Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tasked the newly elected State executive council of the All Progressives Congress in the state to make the party a point of national reference.

Sanwo-Olu gave this charge at the 2026 state congress held at Onikan, on Tuesday at the instance of the party’s national state congress delegation led by Hon. Stella Okotete.

“Today is a day that we can tell the entire nation that the APC in Lagos is about uncommon standards.

“We have shown that the party structure in Lagos is next to none in the entire country.

“We have demonstrated that the party is supreme, we have shown to everybody that for us in Lagos we are strengthened by the unity of purpose.

“We have demonstrated here this afternoon that we have a single and common purpose to ensure that the party formation and the party structure in our state is the best and next to none.

“The charge is very simple, you have the responsibility to take this party in Lagos state to a level of national reference, in ensuring inclusivity, fairness, equity and just is at play at all times.

“Ensure that everybody that want to be part of our house there is a room for them, there is a space for them and you hold on to the tenet of the party.

“The party have voted for you and you have no other place to run to again, you must make effort to ensure the party’s growth as you have promised all of us.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us this is just the beginning of our journey, as a party, as a people and the commitment we give ourselves is that this party in the state will remain a reference to the entire state congresses and to the entire body chapters in the federation.”

In his acceptance speech at the fastest state congress ever held by the APC in Lagos, Pastor Cornelius Oyefolu Ojelabi who was returned unopposed as consensus candidate along with host of his substantive executive stressed his poise to pursue an enviable height in the advancement of the party’s progress in the state.

In the consensus arrangement Moshood Mayegun the Deputy State Chairman, State Secretary Adeola Jokomba alongside some others retained their positions aside the Woman Leader Iyabo Eletu and her assistant Hon Damilola Sonayon James who elected.

“As we celebrate our election we must also look ahead, the forthcoming election presents us with another opportunity to showcase the strength of our unity and power of collective resolve.

“This is a time for us to work together and ensure that APC continues to lead the way in delivering good governance and sustainable development of our people.

“I urge you all to remain focused and united, the future of Lagos State and Nigeria depends on our dedication to work together.

“Let us strengthen our bonds, reach out to every community and ensure that no voice is left unheard and no hand is left idle in this mission.”

The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa in his congratulatory message to Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi on his reelection as Lagos APC executive Chairman, stressed the need for collaboration to sustain the positive impact made by the party in time past.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Dave Agboola, and released shortly after the congress, Obasa commended the peaceful and transparent manner in which the exercise was conducted.

He described Ojelabi’s re-election as a reflection of the confidence and trust reposed in his leadership by party members across the state.

“Pastor Ojelabi has shown remarkable dedication and vision in steering the affairs of our party in Lagos. His return as chairman is a well-deserved recognition of his efforts to strengthen the APC and ensure its continued success,” Obasa said.

The Speaker urged the new executives to work together in consolidating the achievements of the party, deepening internal democracy, and fostering unity among members.

He emphasized that the APC in Lagos must continue to serve as a model of progressive governance and political stability in Nigeria.

Obasa also congratulated all delegates and stakeholders who participated in the congress, stressing that their commitment to the party’s ideals remains vital to sustaining its success.
