The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that results from its party primaries had already emerged, insisting that the exercise is yet to take place.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party described the purported results as false and misleading, stressing that its primary elections are officially scheduled for May 29, 2026.
The NDC said no candidate had been declared winner in any contest, urging party members and the public to disregard any unofficial announcements being shared online.
“The Nigeria Democratic Congress wishes to categorically state that the party primaries have not yet been conducted. Any results currently in circulation are fake and should be ignored,” the statement read.
The party reiterated its commitment to a transparent and credible primary process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The clarification follows widespread online speculation and unverified claims suggesting that some aspirants had already secured party tickets before the commencement of the scheduled primaries.
Political observers say the emergence of premature and unverified election results has become increasingly common during Nigeria’s electoral cycle, often prompting political parties and electoral bodies to issue public disclaimers.
The NDC urged its supporters, stakeholders and the media to rely only on information released through its official communication channels.
