Veteran Nollywood actor Richardo Agbor has shared the emotional story of how he and his wife waited 18 years before welcoming a set of twins, describing the experience as a testament to patience, unwavering faith, and commitment to his marriage.
Agbor made the revelation during a recent interview with AfricanAList, in which he reflected on the challenges he faced before becoming a father and the personal tragedies that shaped his life.
According to the actor, he remained steadfast throughout the nearly two-decade wait for children, refusing to abandon his wife despite the pressure that often accompanies prolonged childlessness.
Speaking about his marriage, Agbor said he married the woman he loved regardless of tribal differences, adding that their relationship remained peaceful despite expectations from some quarters that such a union might encounter difficulties.
He disclosed that he specifically prayed to God for twins and eventually welcomed a boy and a girl after 18 years of marriage.
“It took 18 years for me to have the twins. I waited. God knows, 18 years, and they are 14 now. I told God I wanted twins,” Agbor said, adding that his prayers were eventually answered exactly as he had hoped.
Beyond his journey to fatherhood, the actor also recounted what he described as the most painful experience of his life which is the death of his mother.
Agbor said his mother had been receiving treatment for about three weeks without significant improvement before doctors recommended that she be taken to South Africa for further medical care. However, following her request to be moved to another private hospital in Surulere, Lagos, she died in his arms as he was helping her into a vehicle.
Describing the heartbreaking moment, the actor said it was the first time he had cried outside of performing an emotional scene in a film.
He noted that the loss remains one of the darkest moments of his life, saying the experience left a lasting emotional impact.
Agbor’s account has drawn widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians praising his resilience, faith, and dedication to his marriage despite years of waiting for children. His story has also resonated with couples facing similar fertility challenges, with many describing it as an inspiring testimony of perseverance and hope.
