Adeleke launches free health insurance scheme for Osun monarchs, queens

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has flagged off a free health insurance enrollment programme for traditional rulers and queens across the state, describing the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare for all residents.

The programme, unveiled in Osun State, is aimed at providing monarchs and their spouses with access to essential healthcare services under the state’s health insurance scheme while strengthening the government’s broader universal health coverage agenda.

Speaking at the launch, Governor Adeleke said the initiative underscores his administration’s resolve to improve healthcare delivery and ensure that every segment of society, including traditional institutions, benefits from government interventions.

He noted that traditional rulers occupy strategic positions within their communities and play a vital role in promoting public health initiatives, conflict resolution, and grassroots development.

According to the governor, enrolling monarchs and queens in the health insurance scheme will not only safeguard their wellbeing but also encourage greater public confidence in the programme and promote wider enrollment among residents.

Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in the health sector through improved infrastructure, expanded access to medical services, and policies designed to enhance the welfare of the people.

The governor also urged traditional rulers to continue supporting government efforts to promote preventive healthcare, public awareness campaigns, and community-based health programmes.

Representatives of the traditional institution welcomed the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of the government’s recognition of the role played by monarchs in advancing development at the grassroots.

One of the speakers at the event praised Adeleke’s leadership and developmental strides, declaring, “I will not stop eulogising Governor Adeleke for his excellent performance in Osun State.”

The commendation reflected the appreciation expressed by several participants, who said the free enrollment programme would improve access to healthcare for traditional rulers while reinforcing collaboration between the government and traditional institutions.

Officials of the state’s health insurance agency explained that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to broaden the reach of the scheme and reduce the financial burden of healthcare on beneficiaries.

They encouraged eligible residents who have yet to enroll to take advantage of the programme, stressing that health insurance remains an effective means of ensuring timely access to quality medical care without catastrophic out-of-pocket expenses.

The launch of the free health insurance enrollment for monarchs and queens adds to the Adeleke administration’s healthcare initiatives, which are focused on strengthening the state’s health system and advancing universal health coverage through inclusive and sustainable policies.
