Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched a coordinated attack on the community of Logomani in Borno State, targeting a military formation, a police outpost and public facilities in the latest wave of violence in Nigeria’s North-East.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community in the early hours of the day, engaging security personnel in a fierce gun battle before setting several public buildings ablaze, including a police outpost, a hospital and a school.
The assault is also reported to have claimed the life of a soldier, while the extent of injuries and damage to other facilities was still being assessed at the time of filing this report.
Residents said heavily armed insurgents arrived in large numbers and launched an attack on an army base stationed in the area, triggering an exchange of gunfire with troops.
Although security forces reportedly resisted the assault, the attackers succeeded in causing significant destruction before withdrawing from the community.
Witnesses said panic spread among residents as gunshots echoed through the area, forcing many people to flee their homes in search of safety.
In addition to attacking the military and police positions, the insurgents allegedly set fire to a primary healthcare facility and a school, further worsening the humanitarian situation in the affected community.
The destruction of the health centre is expected to disrupt access to essential medical services for residents, while damage to educational infrastructure could affect learning activities if reconstruction is delayed.
Community leaders described the incident as devastating, calling on the Federal Government to strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities across the state.
The latest attack underscores the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups operating in parts of Borno and other states in the North-East despite years of military operations against terrorism.
Security analysts say the assault reflects the continued ability of insurgents to carry out coordinated attacks on isolated communities and security installations.
