Makinde confirms all rescued Oyo pupils, teachers to receive 48 hour medical care

Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed that all the schoolchildren and teachers rescued after thesir abduction in Oyo State will remain under medical observation for 48 hours to enable healthcare professionals assess their physical and psychological condition before they are reunited with their families.

The governor disclosed this while providing an update on the victims’ welfare following their rescue, describing the development as a significant breakthrough in the state’s efforts to secure their safe return.

According to Makinde, the victims are receiving comprehensive medical care and support from healthcare personnel to ensure they are fit and stable after spending days in captivity.

He explained that the decision to keep the pupils and teachers under observation was taken in line with standard medical procedures for victims of traumatic incidents, noting that doctors would closely monitor their health and provide any necessary treatment before discharge.

The governor also assured parents and guardians that the state government was prioritising the welfare of the rescued victims, adding that trained medical personnel and counsellors had been deployed to provide both physical and psychological support.

Makinde confirmed that every abducted pupil and teacher had been rescued, expressing appreciation to the security agencies and all those involved in the operation that led to their release.

He commended the coordinated efforts of the military, police, intelligence agencies and local stakeholders, saying their collaboration was instrumental in ensuring the victims were safely recovered.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across Oyo State to prevent similar incidents, stressing that the protection of schoolchildren and educational institutions remains a top priority.

He also assured residents that the government would continue working closely with security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the abduction, adding that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

The abduction of the pupils and teachers had sparked widespread concern across the state and beyond, prompting intensified security operations and calls from parents, civil society organisations and community leaders for their safe return.

The successful rescue has been welcomed by residents and education stakeholders, although many have urged the government to further strengthen security around schools and vulnerable communities to guard against future attacks.

As the victims remain under medical observation, state authorities are expected to continue providing healthcare, counselling and other support services to aid their recovery and ease their reintegration with their families and school communities.
