Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticised Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over comments he made during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
AbdulRazaq, who was speaking at an APC campaign rally in Osogbo on Thursday, reportedly urged Osun residents to elect a governor who would have direct access to President Bola Tinubu and the Presidency.
The Kwara governor said such access would enable the state to attract federal support and development projects.
“There is a need to have a governor that can go to Aso Rock and bring goodies to Osun State. You need to have a governor that has access to the President,” AbdulRazaq said, according to reports of the rally.
Davido, who has been actively campaigning for his elder brother, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election as Osun State governor, responded to AbdulRazaq’s remarks in a post on X on Friday.
The singer questioned what the Kwara governor’s access to the Presidency had delivered for residents of Kwara, particularly with regard to security.
“Your accessibility to the villa brought nothing but insecurity to Kwarans … these so-called leaders are watery …,” Davido wrote.
The exchange comes as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of the Osun governorship election, with the relationship between state governments and the Federal Government emerging as a recurring theme in campaign rhetoric.
Davido has in recent weeks increased his involvement in the Osun election campaign, openly mobilising support for his brother and criticising opponents of the incumbent governor.
AbdulRazaq, a prominent APC figure and governor of neighbouring Kwara State, has also been involved in the party’s campaign activities in Osun.
The latest comments have generated reactions on social media, with supporters of the two political camps debating whether proximity to the Presidency translates into improved security and development at the state level.
Neither AbdulRazaq nor the Kwara State Government had, at the time of reporting, issued a public response to Davido’s latest remarks.
