Thai immigration and police have arrested 11 Nigerians after dismantling a suspected romance scam syndicate in Muang Thong Thani. The operation followed months of investigation after a Thai woman in Nong Khai reported being defrauded of over two million baht by a man posing as a Chinese engineer on Facebook and Line.
Authorities traced the funds to Thai mule accounts and uncovered a larger network operating from a Nonthaburi condominium. During the raid, officers found suspects actively running the scam and seized 34 devices. A total of 13 people were arrested, 11 Nigerians and two Ivorians with some attempting to flee.
Police said eight suspects overstayed their visas, while five entered Thailand illegally via Laos. They face immigration charges, and investigations continue as authorities probe alleged crypto transfers of scam proceeds to Nigeria.
