Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi has been arrested in connection with an alleged coup plot reportedly involving Nigerian military officers, according to a report by Premium Times.
Amandi, who is a film director and former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria’s Enugu State chapter, was taken into custody in September 2025. However, details surrounding his alleged involvement have only recently emerged publicly.
Sources quoted in the report claim that Amandi was recruited by the suspected coup plotters to serve as a propagandist. Investigators believe the scheme was part of a broader conspiracy aimed at unlawfully ousting President Bola Tinubu’s administration from power.
The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that investigations into the alleged plot have been completed. According to military authorities, officers implicated in the matter will face military judicial panels for their roles in what has been described as conduct that violates the ethics and professional standards of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Military officials stated that civilians connected to the case, including Amandi, are expected to be prosecuted in civil courts. Meanwhile, military personnel allegedly involved will first undergo court-martial proceedings before any further legal action is taken.
The nature and scope of Amandi’s alleged involvement, as well as the specific activities he is accused of undertaking, have not been fully disclosed as authorities prepare to move forward with prosecutions.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of a public figure from Nigeria’s entertainment industry in what authorities describe as a serious threat to national security and democratic governance.
