The Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Ovie Success, has offered ₦500,000 in cash support, a complimentary VIP trip and an ambassadorial opportunity to the young woman at the centre of the recent “UBA girl” controversy.
The offer followed widespread reactions on social media to the woman’s encounter with United Bank for Africa (UBA) Chairman, Tony Elumelu, at a UBA event. The incident sparked a debate over workplace etiquette, respect and the appropriate way to address senior executives.
In a statement shared on his social media platforms, Ossai said he was concerned about the backlash the woman had received and urged Nigerians to stop subjecting her to prolonged condemnation.
“I know the internet can be harsh. Depression is real and words cut deep. She made a mistake, but we don’t need to torment her daily; she needs our support,” he said.
Ossai offered the woman ₦500,000 cash support and a complimentary VIP trip to the fourth edition of the Delta Social Media Summit, scheduled for August 27, 2026, in Asaba.
According to his announcement, the package includes flight tickets to Asaba, five-star hotel accommodation, a guided tour of developmental projects in Delta State and VIP access to the social media summit. He also offered her a brand ambassador role for the annual summit.
The aide appealed to members of the public who know the woman to help connect him with her so that he could make the offer directly.
“If you’re reading this or anyone knows her, please ask her to DM me. I will give her a good time and a platform to tell her story,” he said.
The controversy began after a video from a UBA event showed the young woman addressing Elumelu by his first name, “Tony,” before he interrupted and corrected her.
Elumelu told her to address him as “Mr Elumelu,” “TOE” or “Chairman” instead. The exchange subsequently went viral, generating contrasting reactions online.
While some Nigerians criticised the young woman’s approach, others argued that the incident should not result in sustained online harassment or affect her career.
Ossai said his intervention was intended to turn the controversy into a positive opportunity for the woman.
“Let’s turn this pain into purpose,” he said, assuring her that she would not be disappointed.
The Delta government aide also commended Elumelu for his intervention following the incident, saying the episode could serve as an opportunity to strengthen respect and professionalism in society.
The Delta Social Media Summit, where Ossai has invited the woman as a VIP guest, is scheduled to take place at the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park in Asaba.
As of the latest reports, the woman had not publicly confirmed whether she had accepted the offer.
