Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has escalated his public exchange with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo by sharing what he claimed was the governor’s West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result on social media.
The singer’s post came shortly after Governor Okpebholo made a remark about Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, during a political event ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election. Okpebholo had mocked Governor Adeleke, suggesting he would return to dancing after the election, a comment that drew criticism from supporters of the Osun governor.
In response, Davido shared an image purporting to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result and questioned the governor’s academic performance. The post quickly gained traction across social media platforms, generating widespread reactions from supporters and critics of both the singer and the governor.
However, the authenticity of the document shared by Davido has not been independently verified, and neither the West African Examinations Council nor the Edo State Government has confirmed that it belongs to Governor Okpebholo.
The exchange is the latest in a series of political statements by Davido, who has been actively campaigning for the re-election of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the forthcoming Osun governorship election. The singer has repeatedly urged political actors to allow the electorate to decide the outcome of the poll through a free, fair and peaceful electoral process.
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Okpebholo had not publicly responded to Davido’s latest post, while the WAEC document circulated online remains unverified.
The social media exchange has further heightened political rhetoric ahead of the Osun governorship election, with observers urging political actors and their supporters to maintain civility and avoid actions capable of inflaming tensions.
