Former Osun State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, says he has remained faithful to his wife, Sherifat, since their marriage, attributing his commitment to his devotion to God.
Aregbesola made the statement while campaigning for the ADC ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
He spoke about his marriage while addressing supporters as part of the party’s campaign activities in the state, using his relationship with his wife as an example of the values he said have guided his personal and public life.
Aregbesola said his fidelity to Sherifat was rooted in his religious convictions and commitment to living according to his faith.
The former governor and his wife have been married for several years and have maintained a relatively private family life. The Osun State Government’s official website, during Aregbesola’s tenure as governor, described Sherifat as a supportive wife who was actively involved in humanitarian activities through the Sheri Care Foundation.
The former governor served as Osun State governor from 2010 to 2018 before becoming Minister of Interior under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He is now a prominent figure in the ADC, which is participating in the political contest ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
The August 15 poll is expected to be closely contested, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking re-election alongside candidates from other political parties.
Aregbesola’s involvement in the ADC campaign has attracted considerable attention because of his long-standing influence in Osun politics and his previous leadership of the state.
His latest comments also come amid intensified political activities and realignments ahead of the election, with parties and their candidates stepping up campaigns to secure support across the state.
While addressing supporters, Aregbesola urged voters to consider the character and record of candidates when deciding whom to support at the polls.
