A Nigerian pilgrim participating in the 2026 Hajj exercise has died in Saudi Arabia during the movement of worshippers from Arafat to Muzdalifah, according to multiple media reports.
The deceased, identified only as a male pilgrim believed to be from Bauchi State, reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday shortly after arriving at Muzdalifah, one of the key sites for Hajj rites.
Witnesses quoted in reports said Saudi security officials and emergency medical personnel quickly evacuated the body from the area following the incident. Two officials believed to be attached to the Bauchi State pilgrims’ contingent were also seen accompanying the evacuation process.
Authorities had yet to officially confirm the identity of the pilgrim or disclose the exact cause of death as of Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred during the physically demanding overnight movement of pilgrims from Mount Arafat to Muzdalifah, a major stage of the annual Islamic pilgrimage that attracts millions of Muslims from around the world.
The 2026 Hajj has drawn large numbers of Nigerian pilgrims under the coordination of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and various state pilgrims welfare boards.
The death comes days after reports emerged that a senior Bauchi State pilgrims board official, Shehu Yahaya Jalam, also died in Saudi Arabia during the Hajj exercise after a brief illness.
