Ogun 2027: APC’s Yayi meets Obasanjo, Amosun to seek backing for governorship bid

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has intensified consultations ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election with separate visits to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun in Abeokuta.

Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election, said the visits were aimed at seeking the blessings, guidance and support of two of the state’s most influential political figures.

Speaking to journalists after meeting Obasanjo at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), the senator described the engagement as productive, noting that the former president shared valuable advice on governance and the future of Ogun State.

“I came to pay homage to our father, a former President and respected national leader. We received a warm reception and sought his blessings, guidance and support, all of which he graciously gave us,” Adeola said.

He added that Obasanjo offered recommendations on the development of Ogun State, pledging to incorporate the advice into his plans if elected governor in 2027.

Responding, Obasanjo urged the APC candidate to remain focused on his ambition while seeking divine guidance.

“My prayer is that your desires and ambitions will align with God’s purpose for your life,” the former president said, encouraging Adeola to pursue his aspirations with determination while placing his trust in God and the people of Ogun State.

Adeola later visited former Governor Amosun, whom he described as his political leader, to seek his support as part of ongoing consultations within the ruling party.

“I came to seek my leader’s understanding and support, which he has graciously given,” Adeola said, expressing optimism about the APC’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.

Amosun, in his remarks, called for unity among APC members, stressing that the party should avoid internal divisions and remain focused on delivering good governance.

“What the people want is good governance. We are one family, and there is no need to form separate groups,” the former governor said. He added that the visit reflected the party’s commitment to working together ahead of the election.

The visits form part of Adeola’s broader consultations with political leaders and stakeholders across Ogun State following his emergence as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate. Political observers view the meetings as an effort to consolidate support within the party and strengthen his campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
