The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, has attracted attention after riding a scooter while inspecting preparations for his fifth coronation anniversary in Okere, Warri, Delta State.
The monarch was seen on a scooter as he moved around the area to inspect arrangements ahead of activities planned to commemorate five years of his reign. The footage has since attracted attention on social media, with residents and followers reacting to the monarch’s unconventional mode of movement.
Ogiame Atuwatse III ascended the throne in 2021 and is expected to mark his fifth anniversary with a series of activities celebrating the Warri Kingdom and his years on the throne.
The latest scooter appearance is not the first time the monarch has been seen using two wheels instead of the traditional royal motorcade during public engagements.
In December 2025, the Olu of Warri rode an electric scooter while inspecting the Trans-Warri–Ode-Itsekiri Road, a major infrastructure project in Delta State. A video shared on his social media account showed the monarch navigating the newly completed road while members of his entourage followed in vehicles.
The road, according to reports, stretches for about 20.95 kilometres and includes 15 bridges of varying spans. It connects Warri with Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestral capital of the Warri Kingdom, and was delivered under the administration of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The monarch also attracted public attention in March 2025 when he was filmed riding a scooter through Ode-Itsekiri, where residents welcomed him and sang his praises.
His latest appearance has once again highlighted the relatively informal and modern public image associated with the traditional ruler since he became the 21st Olu of Warri.
Beyond the ceremonial responsibilities of the throne, Ogiame Atuwatse III has increasingly been portrayed as a monarch who combines traditional leadership with a contemporary approach to public engagement.
The fifth-anniversary celebrations are expected to provide an opportunity for the Warri Kingdom to reflect on the monarch’s tenure and showcase activities connected to the kingdom’s cultural heritage.
The Olu’s scooter ride has meanwhile become a talking point ahead of the anniversary, with the images offering a less conventional glimpse of the monarch as preparations for the celebrations continue.
