Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator Chukwuebuka Amuzie, widely known as Brain Jotter, has raised concerns after suspected street thugs blocked his vehicle on a Lagos road and demanded a “settlement fee” before allowing him to drive through.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, when suspected area boys surrounded the comedian’s car, refusing to let him pass without payment. Amuzie shared a video of the encounter on his official Instagram page, filmed in a selfie style from inside his vehicle, showing a crowd of men gathered outside.
He captioned the post: “Nigerian zoo keepers are the worst. We lack good wild life and they let a lion escape from the zoo this is sad.” He also captioned the post “Our Reality in Lagos.”
The video shows the moment the content creator was confronted by a group of men on a Lagos road who reportedly refused to allow him free passage, demanding settlement before he could leave. One social media user claimed the confrontation occurred in the Bariga area after a show, alleging that the men approached the comedian after he refused to “settle” them.
The post quickly went viral, reigniting public debate about safety and the unchecked behaviour of street touts in Lagos. Reactions poured in from fans and members of the public, many expressing outrage while others shared similar personal experiences with area boys across different parts of the city. One commenter wrote, “This is becoming too much, something has to be done about this and their entitlement is really alarming.”
Several users warned that the area boy menace had spread beyond Lagos Island onto the mainland. The incident adds to a rising number of complaints by entertainers, professionals and ordinary residents over the activities of suspected area boys, also known as “agberos,” in different parts of Lagos.
The incident comes shortly after Saltiana, a DJ and the younger sister of singer Ayra Starr, alleged that suspected area boys attacked her vehicle after reportedly mistaking her for the musician. Similarly, actress Bimbo Ademoye also recently made headlines after clashing with thugs at a movie location, adding to growing concern over extortion and harassment targeting public figures and motorists in the city.
Amuzie, a Lagos-based comedian and skit-maker of Igbo heritage from Imo State, rose to prominence in 2020 through his social media comedy skits and has since built a massive following across platforms, including more than a million subscribers on YouTube. He is a graduate of Business Administration from the University of Lagos.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the Lagos State Police Command regarding the incident, and it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the confrontation.
