Serving Overseer of the The Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has called for a new generation of Nigerian leaders who regard public office as a sacred trust rather than a platform for personal gain.
Bakare made the remarks while addressing national issues during a recent public engagement, where he stressed that the country’s leadership challenges stem largely from a failure to uphold the values of integrity, accountability and selfless service. He argued that sustainable national development depends on leaders who are committed to the public interest and the rule of law.
According to the cleric and former presidential aspirant, Nigeria requires a political culture rooted in good governance rather than entitlement. He maintained that those entrusted with public office must recognise that leadership is a responsibility to serve citizens and strengthen institutions, not an opportunity for personal enrichment.
Bakare also emphasised the need for leaders to mentor younger generations and build enduring institutions capable of sustaining national progress beyond individual administrations. He warned that a lack of succession planning and value-based leadership has contributed to many of the country’s governance challenges.
The outspoken preacher further urged political leaders to embrace transparency, accountability and ethical conduct, noting that restoring public confidence in government requires officials who respect both the offices they occupy and the citizens they serve.
Bakare has consistently advocated institutional reforms, responsible leadership and national renewal, frequently calling on public office holders to prioritise the welfare of Nigerians and strengthen democratic governance. His latest comments come as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum across the country.
