RCCG reaffirms Adeboye’s political neutrality

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has reaffirmed that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, remains politically neutral and has never campaigned for any government or political party in Nigeria.

The church made the clarification amid renewed public discussions about the role of religious leaders in politics and governance, stressing that Pastor Adeboye’s ministry has consistently remained non-partisan.

According to the RCCG, the cleric has neither endorsed political candidates nor directed church members to support any particular party. The church emphasized that its membership comprises individuals from diverse political backgrounds and affiliations, making partisan involvement inconsistent with its mission.

The position aligns with several previous statements by Adeboye, who has repeatedly maintained that politics is not his calling and that he would not tell members of the church who to vote for. He has, however, encouraged Nigerians to participate in the democratic process by registering and voting during elections.

The RCCG noted that while church members are free to engage in politics as private citizens, the institution itself does not function as a political platform and does not campaign for governments in power.

Pastor Adeboye has previously stated that every major political party is represented within the church and that it would be unfair for him to publicly support one party or candidate over another.

The latest clarification comes amid heightened political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various public figures and organizations increasingly being drawn into debates about political endorsements and electoral alignments.

The RCCG reiterated its commitment to its spiritual mandate, urging members and the public to distinguish between individual political participation and the church’s official position of neutrality.
