Remi Tinubu flags off reopened Abuja City Gate after major remodeling

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday inaugurated the newly remodeled Abuja City Gate, describing the project as a significant step toward enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and reinforcing the city’s status as the nation’s capital.

The refurbished landmark, one of Abuja’s most recognisable entry points, was officially unveiled during a ceremony attended by senior government officials, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) representatives, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, the First Lady commended the efforts of the Federal Capital Territory Administration in transforming the iconic structure, noting that the renovation reflects the government’s commitment to creating a cleaner, more attractive, and welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

She said the Abuja City Gate serves as more than just an architectural landmark, describing it as a symbol of national unity, pride, and the country’s aspirations. According to her, improving public infrastructure and preserving national monuments are essential to projecting a positive image of Nigeria to the international community.

Remi Tinubu also urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to take ownership of public facilities by protecting and maintaining them, stressing that sustainable development requires the collective efforts of government and citizens alike.

The remodeling project included extensive rehabilitation of the iconic gate, landscaping, improved lighting, beautification of the surrounding environment, and other structural enhancements designed to improve the visual appeal of the entrance into the nation’s capital.

Officials of the FCTA said the project forms part of broader urban renewal and infrastructure improvement initiatives aimed at modernising Abuja and preserving its status as one of Africa’s purpose-built capital cities.

The administration noted that the beautification programme also seeks to improve the experience of residents, investors, diplomats, and tourists entering the city while showcasing Abuja as a modern and well-maintained capital.

The inauguration comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and the FCT Administration to upgrade roads, public spaces, parks, and other critical infrastructure across the territory as part of wider urban development and environmental sustainability programmes.

Residents and visitors are expected to benefit from the enhanced aesthetics and improved environment around the Abuja City Gate, which remains one of the city’s most prominent landmarks and a major gateway into the Federal Capital Territory.

The remodeled gate is expected to serve as a renewed symbol of Abuja’s identity while complementing ongoing initiatives to improve infrastructure, promote tourism, and strengthen the capital city’s visual appeal.
