Segalink questions Peter Obi’s leadership credentials

Social commentator and institutional reform advocate Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, arguing that the former Anambra State governor lacks the qualities required to lead Nigeria.

Awosanya made the remarks while commenting on Nigeria’s political landscape, contending that Obi’s style of politics is divisive and heavily influenced by what he described as an online “mob.”

According to Segalink, the country requires a leader capable of building consensus across political, ethnic, and religious divides rather than one whose political movement, in his view, is driven by intense online activism.

He argued that effective national leadership demands inclusiveness, institutional strength, and the ability to unite people with differing opinions, adding that political discourse should be based on ideas and constructive engagement rather than hostility.

Awosanya also expressed concern over the conduct of some supporters associated with Obi’s political movement, alleging that dissenting views are often met with coordinated attacks on social media.

He maintained that such an atmosphere discourages healthy democratic debate and undermines efforts to foster national unity.

The comments have generated mixed reactions among Nigerians, particularly on social media, where supporters and critics of the former presidential candidate have continued to debate the merits of the claims.

While some agreed with Awosanya’s assessment of Nigeria’s political climate, others defended Obi, arguing that his supporters are passionate advocates of accountability and good governance rather than participants in coordinated online attacks.

Political analysts note that public exchanges between influential commentators and political figures have become increasingly common as discussions about Nigeria’s future leadership gather momentum ahead of the next general elections.

Peter Obi, who has consistently presented himself as an advocate of prudent governance, economic reforms, and institutional accountability, has continued to enjoy significant support among many young Nigerians and members of the electorate seeking political change.

As of the time of reporting, Obi had not publicly responded to Awosanya’s latest remarks.

The comments add to the broader national conversation about leadership, political engagement, and the role of social media in shaping public opinion and democratic participation in Nigeria.
