Former Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Smart Adeyemi, has strongly condemned the recent wave of banditry attacks in Kogi State, particularly in the Okun-Yoruba-speaking communities, while commending Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his commitment to tackling the state’s security challenges.
Adeyemi expressed concern over the growing insecurity in parts of Kogi West, describing the attacks as disturbing and unacceptable. He said the continued threat posed by armed bandits to lives and property has created fear among residents and disrupted economic and social activities in affected communities.
The former lawmaker called on security agencies to intensify efforts to flush out criminal elements operating in the region and ensure the safety of citizens. He stressed the need for sustained collaboration between federal and state authorities to address the root causes of insecurity and restore public confidence.
While condemning the attacks, Adeyemi praised Governor Ododo for what he described as a proactive and determined approach to security. According to him, the governor has demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting lives and property through increased support for security agencies and initiatives aimed at improving intelligence gathering across the state.
He noted that the administration’s efforts have shown a willingness to confront the security challenges facing Kogi and urged residents to support government initiatives by providing useful information to security operatives.
Adeyemi also appealed to community leaders, traditional rulers, and youth groups to work closely with security agencies in identifying and reporting suspicious activities. He said collective vigilance remains critical to preventing further attacks and ensuring lasting peace in the state.
The former senator expressed sympathy to families who have lost loved ones or suffered losses as a result of the attacks, urging the government and relevant agencies to provide necessary support to affected communities.
Kogi State, particularly parts of the Okun axis in Kogi West, has in recent years experienced security challenges ranging from banditry and kidnappings to attacks on rural communities. Authorities have continued to deploy security personnel and implement measures aimed at curbing criminal activities and improving safety across the state.
Adeyemi reaffirmed his confidence in the state’s ability to overcome the security challenges, calling for unity among residents and sustained efforts by all stakeholders to secure the region and promote development.
