The fiancé of late Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, has claimed that the actress died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos State, disputing reports linking her death to complications from breast cancer.
Onadeko made the claim during an interview with the Celestial Reality Check, the Media Investigative Unit of the Celestial Church of Christ, on Saturday.
According to him, he learnt of Osoba’s death through a phone call from an unidentified person around midnight.
“It was a random person that called me around 12 am that she died in a police station in Ikorodu,” he said.
However, Onadeko said he did not know the particular police station where the actress allegedly died. He said he subsequently reported himself at a nearby police station after receiving the information.
The cleric said Osoba had gone to visit a woman identified as Mrs Kehinde Osoba shortly before her death. He added that a hairdresser with whom the actress had been staying accompanied her on the visit, while he remained behind because of church commitments.
Onadeko also rejected claims that Osoba died from complications associated with her previous battle with breast cancer.
Osoba, who was 40, had publicly spoken about her battle with breast cancer and undergone treatment and surgery. Her death was announced by colleagues on August 5, although the cause of death was not initially disclosed.
The actress’ death has since generated speculation on social media, with various claims concerning the circumstances surrounding her final days.
Onadeko denied several of the allegations, including claims that Osoba was poisoned or maltreated. He also rejected allegations that he had access to money raised to support her cancer treatment or used the funds to build his church.
The claims about the circumstances of Osoba’s death have not been independently verified.
In a statement issued shortly after her death, the Awonuga/Osoba family warned against what it described as false, speculative and unauthorised reports circulating on social media and blogs.
The family urged the public and media to rely only on information released through its official channels and authorised representatives, while asking for privacy as relatives mourned the actress.
Meanwhile, the family has announced August 13, 2026, for Osoba’s burial in Iperu Remo, Ogun State. A funeral service is scheduled to hold at Saint James Anglican Church, Iperu Remo, followed by her interment at Iperu Remo Cemetery.
Until further information is provided by the family, police or other relevant authorities, the exact circumstances and cause of Temitope Osoba’s death remain unclear.
