Tinubu extols Fashola’s leadership qualities in 62nd birthday tribute

President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to former Lagos State Governor and immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, on the occasion of his 62nd birthday, describing him as an outstanding leader whose contributions have left a lasting impact on Lagos State and Nigeria.

In a congratulatory message marking Fashola’s birthday, President Tinubu praised the former governor for his exemplary public service, commitment to good governance, and dedication to national development throughout his years in office.

The President commended Fashola’s leadership during his tenure as governor of Lagos State from 2007 to 2015, noting that his administration built on ongoing reforms and delivered significant improvements in infrastructure, transportation, environmental management, public administration, and urban development.

Tinubu also lauded Fashola’s service at the federal level, where he held the portfolios of Minister of Power, Works and Housing, and later Minister of Works and Housing under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He said the former minister played a vital role in advancing key infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation and construction of major highways, bridges, and other strategic road networks across the country.

Describing Fashola as a disciplined administrator and visionary leader, the President said his unwavering commitment to excellence and integrity has earned him respect across political and professional circles.

Tinubu further acknowledged Fashola’s dedication to nation-building, noting that his wealth of experience and leadership qualities continue to inspire younger generations of public servants and political leaders.

“As he marks this milestone, I celebrate his remarkable achievements and invaluable contributions to the growth of our democracy and national development,” the President said, while wishing him good health, wisdom, and many more years of impactful service.

Fashola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent political figures. Before becoming governor, he served as Chief of Staff to then-Governor Bola Tinubu in Lagos State, a role that helped shape his political career before succeeding Tinubu as governor in 2007.

During his eight-year administration in Lagos, Fashola was widely recognised for pursuing reforms in infrastructure, public transportation, environmental sanitation, and governance. His tenure also earned him national and international recognition for efforts aimed at modernising Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The birthday tribute has attracted congratulatory messages from political leaders, associates, and admirers, many of whom have praised Fashola’s enduring contributions to public service and his continued influence on governance and policy development in Nigeria.

As Babatunde Fashola celebrates his 62nd birthday, President Tinubu’s message underscores the long-standing political relationship between the two leaders and highlights Fashola’s enduring legacy as one of Nigeria’s most influential public servants.
