President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening sports development in Nigeria, promising increased investment in athlete welfare, grassroots programmes and sports infrastructure following the country’s performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
In a statement congratulating Team Nigeria, the President commended the athletes for their resilience, discipline and patriotism, describing their achievements as a source of pride for the nation. He said their performances demonstrated Nigeria’s sporting potential and underscored the need for sustained government support.
Tinubu pledged that his administration would continue to create an enabling environment for athletes to excel by improving training facilities, enhancing sports administration and expanding opportunities for talent discovery across the country.

He also praised the coaching crews, sports administrators and support personnel for their contributions to Team Nigeria’s campaign, noting that their dedication played a crucial role in the country’s success.
The President stressed that sports remain a vital tool for national unity, youth empowerment and economic development, adding that the government would work closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen sports institutions and encourage greater private-sector participation in the sector.
Tinubu further reiterated his administration’s commitment to grassroots sports development, saying more young Nigerians would be supported to discover and develop their talents through improved sporting facilities and structured development programmes.
