President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as impressive performance in the administration of the nation’s capital, declaring that the former Rivers State governor has not disappointed him since assuming office.
Tinubu made the remark during a public event in Abuja, where he lauded Wike’s efforts in driving infrastructure development and executing key projects across the Federal Capital Territory. The President said the minister had justified the confidence reposed in him and demonstrated commitment to delivering on the administration’s development agenda.
“You have not disappointed me,” Tinubu told Wike, while acknowledging the pace of ongoing projects and improvements in Abuja’s infrastructure.
The President noted that visible progress had been recorded in the FCT under Wike’s leadership, particularly in road construction, urban renewal initiatives, and efforts aimed at improving public services. He stressed that his administration remains committed to transforming the capital city into a modern and efficient centre that reflects Nigeria’s aspirations.
Tinubu also used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects nationwide, describing such investments as critical to economic growth, job creation, and national development. He urged public office holders to remain focused on service delivery and ensure that government projects are completed for the benefit of citizens.
Since his appointment as FCT Minister in August 2023, Wike has embarked on an ambitious programme of infrastructure development, overseeing the construction and rehabilitation of roads, bridges, and other public facilities within Abuja and surrounding satellite towns. Several projects initiated under his administration have been commissioned as part of efforts to improve connectivity and ease transportation challenges in the capital.
Responding to the President’s commendation, Wike expressed gratitude for the support he has received from Tinubu and pledged to remain committed to the administration’s objectives. He said the achievements recorded in the FCT were made possible by the President’s backing and the dedication of relevant agencies and stakeholders.
The minister reiterated his determination to sustain the pace of development in the territory, promising that more projects would be delivered to improve the living conditions of residents and strengthen the capital’s infrastructure.
Tinubu’s public endorsement of Wike is expected to further reinforce the minister’s standing within the administration, amid ongoing political discussions surrounding his role in the federal government and his influence within Nigeria’s political landscape.
The commendation also underscores the President’s emphasis on performance and project delivery as key benchmarks for assessing members of his cabinet, as the administration seeks to demonstrate tangible progress in governance and infrastructure development.
