Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Comrade Benedict Inaede, describing the loss as a painful blow to the Obidient Movement and its supporters across Nigeria.
In a condolence message, Obi paid tribute to the late Inaede, who served as the Edo State Secretary of the Obidient Movement, noting that his dedication, commitment, and contributions to the movement would not be forgotten.
The former Anambra State governor said he received news of Inaede’s passing with profound sadness, describing him as a loyal and hardworking member of the movement whose efforts helped strengthen its presence and activities in Edo State.
Obi stated that the late secretary played a significant role in advancing the ideals of the Obidient Movement, a political and civic group that emerged in support of his 2023 presidential campaign and has since remained active in promoting citizen participation and good governance.
According to Obi, Inaede’s death represents an irreplaceable loss not only to his family and loved ones but also to members of the movement who worked closely with him over the years.
“His dedication to the cause, commitment to service, and passion for a better Nigeria will continue to inspire many,” Obi said while extending his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and associates.
He prayed for strength and comfort for those grieving the loss and urged members of the Obidient Movement to honour Inaede’s memory by remaining committed to the principles and aspirations he championed during his lifetime.
The Obidient Movement has grown into one of Nigeria’s most prominent political support networks, particularly among young people, professionals, and civil society groups advocating reforms in governance and public accountability.
Following the announcement of Inaede’s death, tributes poured in from supporters and members of the movement across the country, many of whom described him as a dedicated organiser, mentor, and advocate for democratic participation.
Political associates and supporters in Edo State also paid tribute to the late secretary, recalling his contributions to grassroots mobilisation and his efforts to strengthen the movement’s structure within the state.
While details surrounding his death were not immediately disclosed, mourners have continued to celebrate his legacy and contributions to the political movement.
Obi concluded his tribute by praying for the peaceful repose of Inaede’s soul and expressing hope that his life of service and commitment to a better society would remain a source of inspiration for future generations.
