Umahi: Tinubu will overcome insecurity challenges

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will ultimately overcome the country’s security challenges, citing ongoing efforts by the federal government to address insecurity across various regions.

Umahi made the remarks while speaking on the security situation in the country, noting that the Tinubu administration remains committed to tackling threats posed by banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, and other forms of criminality.

According to the minister, the government has continued to invest in security operations and infrastructure aimed at improving the safety of citizens and supporting economic development. He said ongoing interventions by security agencies, coupled with strategic policies of the federal government, would yield positive results in the fight against insecurity.

The minister acknowledged that security challenges remain a major concern for many Nigerians but urged citizens to remain hopeful and support the efforts of security agencies. He maintained that the administration is taking concrete steps to restore peace and stability in affected communities.

Nigeria has continued to grapple with a range of security threats, including insurgent attacks in the North-East, banditry and mass kidnappings in parts of the North-West and North-Central regions, as well as other violent crimes across the country. The security situation has remained a key issue for the Tinubu administration since it assumed office in May 2023.

Umahi also highlighted the relationship between security and infrastructure development, noting that improved road networks and other public works projects can enhance security operations, facilitate economic activities, and improve access to remote communities.

The minister’s comments come amid renewed public concern over recent incidents of violence and abductions in several parts of the country. Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism that the government’s ongoing security measures would eventually lead to lasting improvements.

The federal government has repeatedly stated that strengthening national security remains one of its top priorities, with authorities continuing to implement strategies aimed at combating criminal activities and protecting lives and property across the country.
