AC Milan open talks with Pochettino following Allegri dismissal

AC Milan have held preliminary talks with United States men’s national team coach Mauricio Pochettino over the club’s vacant managerial position following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri.

Reports from multiple media outlets indicate that Milan officials recently met with Pochettino as the Serie A club begins its search for a new head coach ahead of the 2026–27 season. The Argentine is among several candidates being considered after the Rossoneri parted ways with Allegri following a disappointing campaign that ended without qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Milan confirmed Allegri’s departure earlier this week after the club finished fifth in Serie A, missing out on a Champions League place. The decision came amid wider changes within the club’s football leadership structure following a late-season collapse in form.

Pochettino, who took charge of the U.S. men’s national team in 2024, is currently preparing the Americans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which begins next month in North America. While reports of Milan’s interest have generated significant attention, Pochettino has publicly insisted that he remains fully committed to the U.S. team’s World Cup campaign.

Speaking amid the speculation, U.S. Soccer chief executive JT Batson acknowledged that leading European clubs have shown interest in Pochettino but stressed that the coach and his staff have been transparent about any approaches.

According to reports, Milan are evaluating multiple managerial options as they seek to rebuild following a turbulent season. Former AFC Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has also been linked with the role, although Pochettino is viewed as one of the leading candidates.

No agreement has been reached, and neither Milan nor Pochettino has officially confirmed any potential move. For now, the 54-year-old’s focus remains on guiding the United States through the World Cup, while Milan continue their search for a successor to Allegri.
