Ahead of Ekiti poll, Oyebanji points to record of delivery

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has highlighted the achievements of his administration ahead of the state’s governorship election, asserting that his government has largely fulfilled the promises made to residents during the 2022 campaign.

The governor’s remarks come as political activities intensify ahead of the June 20 governorship election, in which he is seeking a second term on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 13 political parties are participating in the election.

Oyebanji said his administration’s performance in key sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, security, and human capital development, demonstrates its commitment to good governance and the social contract established with the people of Ekiti.

The governor has repeatedly maintained during his campaign engagements that his government has delivered on the commitments made to voters in 2022. He cited the execution of road projects, improvements in public services, support for economic development initiatives, and investments in social welfare programmes as evidence of progress recorded under his administration.

Speaking on the rationale for seeking re-election, Oyebanji argued that continuity in governance would help sustain ongoing development projects and policy reforms across the state. He said a second term would provide an opportunity to consolidate gains already achieved and accelerate economic growth.

The governor has also linked his re-election bid to the need to maintain stability and ensure the completion of ongoing initiatives designed to improve the welfare of residents.

Political observers have noted that the election will be a significant test of the governor’s popularity and the electorate’s assessment of his administration’s performance over the past four years. If re-elected, Oyebanji would become the first governor since the creation of Ekiti State to serve two consecutive terms without interruption.

As the election approaches, the governor has continued to call for peaceful conduct among political actors and supporters, stressing the importance of preserving the state’s reputation for peaceful democratic processes. He has repeatedly assured residents and stakeholders of his commitment to a free, fair and credible electoral process.

The Ekiti governorship election is expected to be closely watched as voters decide whether to renew Oyebanji’s mandate based on his administration’s record and future plans for the state.
